Average formulas
Weighted average = Σ(value × weight) ÷ Σ weights
Example: marks 72, 85, 64, 90 and 78 → sum 389 → average 389 ÷ 5 = 77.8.
Weighted: 85 × 4 + 72 × 3 + 90 × 2 = 736; 736 ÷ 9 = 81.78.
हिंदी में समझें
औसत = सभी संख्याओं का योग ÷ संख्याओं की गिनती। जैसे 72, 85, 64, 90 और 78 का औसत = 389 ÷ 5 = 77.8।
Frequently asked questions
How do I calculate the average?
Add all the numbers and divide by how many there are. The average of 72, 85, 64, 90 and 78 is 389 ÷ 5 = 77.8.
What is a weighted average?
An average where some values count more than others. Multiply each value by its weight, add the results and divide by the total weight. Marks of 85 (4 credits), 72 (3 credits) and 90 (2 credits) average to 81.78.
Is average the same as mean?
Yes, the everyday "average" is the arithmetic mean. Median (the middle value) and mode (the most common value) are other kinds of average.
How do I find the average percentage of my marks?
If every subject has the same maximum marks, add the percentages and divide by the number of subjects. If maximum marks differ, add all marks obtained and divide by total maximum marks instead.
Can the average be a decimal?
Yes. The average of whole numbers is often a decimal, such as 77.8.
