Formula

X% of Y = (X ÷ 100) × Y. X is what % of Y = (X ÷ Y) × 100. % change = ((New − Old) ÷ Old) × 100.

Example: 20% of 500 = 100. 45 out of 60 marks = 75%. A price rising from ₹80 to ₹100 is a 25% increase.

Frequently Asked Questions

▶ How do I calculate percentage of marks?
Divide marks obtained by total marks and multiply by 100. For example, 432 out of 500 = (432 ÷ 500) × 100 = 86.4%.
▶ What is the difference between percentage and percentile?
Percentage is your score out of 100. Percentile tells how many people scored below you — a 90th percentile means you did better than 90% of candidates.
▶ How do I calculate percentage increase?
Subtract the old value from the new value, divide by the old value, and multiply by 100. From 200 to 250: (50 ÷ 200) × 100 = 25% increase.
▶ How do I reverse a percentage?
To find the original value before an X% increase, divide by (1 + X/100). If a price is ₹118 after an 18% increase, the original was ₹118 ÷ 1.18 = ₹100.
