Why CBSE uses 9.5
When CBSE graded Class 10 students on a 10-point CGPA scale, it looked at the average marks of top scorers over the previous five years. That average was about 95, which falls in the A1 grade worth 10 grade points. 95 ÷ 10 = 9.5, so CBSE suggested multiplying CGPA by 9.5 to get an approximate percentage.

Frequently asked questions
How do I convert CGPA to percentage in CBSE?
Multiply your CGPA by 9.5. For example, 8.2 CGPA × 9.5 = 77.9%. This was the indicative formula CBSE gave on Class 10 marksheets under its CGPA (CCE) grading system.
