How to use it
- Enter the minimum and maximum values. Both ends are included.
- Tap generate. Each run is independent of the last.
For a giveaway, number your entries 1 to N and generate once. For a coin flip, use 1 to 2. For a dice roll, 1 to 6.
How random is it?
This uses your browser's built-in pseudo-random generator. "Pseudo-random" means the numbers come from a deterministic algorithm rather than a physical process — but the output is statistically well distributed and entirely adequate for draws, games and everyday picks.
The gambler's fallacy
Each generation is independent. If you get 7 five times running, the chance of 7 on the next attempt is exactly what it was before — the generator has no memory.
This feels wrong to most people, and the intuition that a result is "due" is known as the gambler's fallacy. It is also why streaks in genuinely random sequences look far less random than people expect. In 100 coin flips, a run of six heads is more likely than not.
Running a fair giveaway
- Number every entry before generating, and publish the count.
- Generate once. Repeatedly re-rolling until you like the result is not a draw.
- Record the range used and announce it alongside the winner.
- For anything with meaningful prizes, screen-record the draw. Transparency matters more than the mechanism.
Frequently Asked Questions
Are these numbers truly random?
They are pseudo-random, generated by an algorithm rather than a physical process. The distribution is statistically sound and suitable for games, draws and picks.
Can I use this for passwords?
No. Use a password manager or a cryptographically secure generator. General-purpose random functions are not designed for security.
Are the minimum and maximum included?
Yes, both ends of the range are possible results.
Why did I get the same number twice?
Each generation is independent, so repeats are expected. Over many runs the distribution evens out, but short sequences often look streaky.
Can I generate several numbers at once?
This generator produces one at a time. Run it repeatedly if you need multiple picks, and note that repeats are possible.
Is this fair for a giveaway?
Yes, provided you number all entries first, generate once and publish the range you used. The transparency of the process matters as much as the generator.
Ek se zyada winners kaise nikalein
Agar aapko 500 entries mein se 5 winners chahiye, do tareeke hain:
- Ek saath 5 numbers generate kariye. Tez hai, lekin ek hi number do baar aa sakta hai. Aisa ho to us number ko chhod kar ek naya generate kariye.
- Ek-ek karke nikaliye aur har winner ka number likhte jaiye. Repeat aaye to dobara generate kariye. Bade prizes ke liye yahi tareeka saaf hai, kyunki har draw alag se record ho jaata hai.
Rules pehle se likh dijiye — "duplicate aane par dobara draw hoga" — taaki baad mein koi sawaal na uthe.
Random pick aur shuffle mein farq
Ye do alag cheezein hain aur log aksar mila dete hain.
| Kaam | Kya chahiye |
|---|---|
| Ek winner chunna | Random number, 1 se total entries tak |
| Poori list ka order badalna | Shuffle — har item ek baar, naye kram mein |
| Teams banana | Pehle shuffle, phir list ko barabar hisson mein baant dijiye |
| Roll of dice | Random number 1 se 6 |
Ye calculator random number deta hai. Class mein groups banane ke liye har student ko ek number dijiye, phir jitne numbers chahiye utne generate karke pehli team bana lijiye.
More questions
Kya ek hi number do baar aa sakta hai?
Haan. Har generate alag aur swatantra hota hai, isliye repeat aana bilkul sambhav hai. Draw se pehle tay kar lijiye ki repeat aane par kya karenge.
Kya main dice ki jagah ise use kar sakta hoon?
Haan, 1 se 6 ka range set kar dijiye. Do dice ke liye do baar generate kariye aur jod lijiye — ek baar 2 se 12 generate karna alag baat hai, kyunki asli dice mein 7 sabse zyada aata hai.
